Flash Flood Watch In Effect For Central Alabama

Heavy rain is expected to continue Wednesday and Thursday, with flash flooding a possibility.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Central Alabama in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday. More rain is expected Thursday, which will bring rain totals for the week to a near record-setting level.

The NWS report states, "Areas of showers and thunderstorms are expected again today. Due to recent heavy rains, isolated locations may experience some flooding, especially where the grounds are already saturated or are prone to flooding."

The rain Thursday may produce some severe storms, according to the NWS. "A pattern favorable for organized convective systems will develop across Alabama," the NWS report states. "There is a low confidence for damaging straight line winds on Thursday afternoon across the north."

The weekend outlook is not expected to be much better. The NWS predicts that damaging winds are also possible across Central Alabama on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. "Heavy rain will continue to be possible with this activity which could cause localized flooding due to saturated grounds and flood-prone areas."
