Flood Watch In Effect For Jefferson County
Heavy rain will continue throughout the day Thursday, which is expected to cause flooding throughout Jefferson County.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Heavy rain throughout the day Thursday is expected to cause some flooding in the Birmingham metro, according to the National Weather Service office in Birmingham. A flood watch is in effect for the northwest portion of Alabama, including Jefferson County.
Meteorologist James Spann said Thursday morning that 2-4 inches of rain are likely in the flood watch area, with 1-2 inches for the southern half of the state through Friday night.
The NWS shows a moderate risk of excessive rain defined for northwest Alabama through tonight, when the heaviest rain is expected to fall. Periods of rain are still likely Friday, but the rain should be lighter.

The NWS urges motorists to remember not to try to drive through standing water.
