BIRMINGHAM, AL - A former Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy has been arrested and charged with possession of obscene material. Phillip Humphries resigned after learning he was being investigated.

The investigation was conducted by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and Jefferson County supervisors had been advised of the investigation beforehand.

Humphries, 56, was hired on April 4, 1989.
