The value of the Birmingham Public Library’s as a provider of quality service and programming 24/7 has been elevated the past few months during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even when the public
did not have access to our buildings, BPL has continued to serve the public through our free online resources and by creating new virtual programming.
BPL depends on assistance from the public and organizations to help provide quality programming and services. Today, we launch the BPL Grants and Sponsorship Spotlight, a new blog to alert the public about new grants we have received and to thank those who support us.
We launch this series by announcing that BPL has been awarded $2,000 in financial support for the “Libraries Connecting You to Coverage” initiative through the Public Library Association.
BPL is one of the 64 libraries selected to offer this service. This honor allows two BPL staff members to obtain training to assist citizens seeking health care insurance options and for BPL to be a designated organization with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
“This opportunity is a great addition to our Citizen Services brand where BPL already offers passports and notary services. Now we can help patrons research their health care options,” said Floyd Council, Executive Director of the Birmingham Public Library.
BPL can assist patrons with health insurance enrollment questions during Open Enrollment that occurs November 1, 2020 to December 15, 2020. Stay tuned for more details closer to the date on how patrons can to take advantage of this important service.
