Former UAB Employee Kills Nurse, Self In UAB Highlands Shooting

A gunman opened fire at UAB Highlands hospital Wednesday night, killing one victim and wounding another before turning the gun on himself.

BIRMINGHAM, AL (AP)— A gunman, who has been identified as 31-year-old former UAB Hospital employee Trevis Devon Coleman, opened fire at UAB Highlands hospital Wednesday night, shooting two people before turning the gun on himself, police said. One victim, nurse Nancy Swift, died in surgery, while the other victim remains in stable condition.

A report from UAB says Coleman was disgruntled about a recent reprimand he had received earlier in the day Wednesday.

According to an AP report, Birmingham police Lt. Peter Williston said police were called at 6:55 p.m. Police found two victims along with Coleman who died of self-inflicted gunshot, Williston said.
