High School Student Tip Leads To Arrest

A student at Shades Valley High School alerted school officials to a firearm on campus, leading to an arrest.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A student at Shades Valley High School tipped off law enforcement to a firearm on the school's campus this week, leading to an arrest. The incident occurred August 28.

The student informed the school administrators and a Jefferson County School Resource Officer of a firearm on the school campus. With the information given by the student, the School Resource Officer acted quickly and all facilities were locked down until the student carrying the firearm was located.

The weapon was reportedly found inside a gym bag and secured. After further investigation, it was determine that the firearm was a BB gun that looked identical to a real firearm.

"The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to applaud the act of bravery and trust the students at Shades Valley High School have placed in the school administration and School Resource Program," said David Agee of the JCSO.

Charges are pending against the student carrying the gun.
