Homewood Superintendent To Retire After School Year
Homewood City Schools Superintendent Dr. Bill Cleveland announced he will retire at the end of the current school year.
HOMEWOOD, AL — The longest-serving superintendent of one of the top-ranked school systems in the state is stepping down when the 2019-2020 school year concludes. Homewood City Schools Superintendent Dr. Bill Cleveland, who has served the Homewood system for a total of 29 years, announced his retirement this week.
Cleveland served as Homewood’s Superintendent for the past 12 years. He is a Homewood High School graduate and came to serve the Homewood School System in 2004 as Principal of Homewood Middle School, and later he went on to serve as Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations.
“I chose education as my career in large part because of the positive experiences I enjoyed as a student in Homewood City Schools,” Cleveland said in a statement from the system. “It has been a privilege and honor to serve a school system that I love and one that has given so much to me and my family. I only hope that I have given half as much to this wonderful institution.”

Cleveland served under six different state superintendents during his time as Homewood’s Superintendent. Through Cleveland’s leadership, the Homewood School System continued to rise as one of the state’s best and one of the nation’s top districts.

“This is a wonderful community that values children and education. For more than 16 years I have had the incredible opportunity to serve Homewood, and I couldn't be prouder of our Patriots," Cleveland said.
Cleveland plans to join LEAN Frog Business Solutions as the Vice President of Sales and Operations, and he is excited to remain a Homewood resident.
