Homicide At Birmingham Nightclub Ruled Justifiable

A deadly shooting occurred Sunday at BadBoyz nightclub in Birmingham, reportedly a dispute between the victim and his girlfriend.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A deadly shooting at a nightclub in Birmingham early Sunday morning has been ruled by Birmingham PD investigators as a justifiable homicide. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. at BadBoyz nightclub on 1575 Bessemer Road.

Birmingham PD Sgt. Johnny Williams said officers from the West Precinct responded to the location to investigate a report of a fight. While responding, officers received additional information that a person was shot.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive person lying on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the victim, later identified as 42-year-old Rasheem Sledge, to UAB Hospital for treatment of his injury. Investigators later received information that the victim had succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

A security guard also sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm during the incident. The incident was determined by police to be the result of a domestic dispute between the deceased and his girlfriend.

BPD Homicide Investigators presented the information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. Following the assessment of the information, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office ruled the shooting as justifiable.
