BIRMINGHAM, AL - A homicide investigation is under way after a man was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds in a residential/commercial area of Five Points West. The victim has been identified as Keith Lamont Tolbert, 44, of Birmingham.

Birmingham police were notified just after 8 a.m. about a person down at the edge of a parking lot the 2100 block of 46th Place West, according to an Alabama Media Group report. First responders arrived, where Tolbert was pronounced dead on the scene. They do not believe Tolbert had been dead long.

Police initially said Tolbert’s death appeared to be a suicide, but additional evidence recovered led to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruling the death a homicide.
