Hottest October Day Ever In Alabama: 103rd Day Above 90 Degrees
October 1 marks the 103rd day of the year temperatures have eclipsed 90 degrees in the state.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Alabamians are likely growing weary of hearing about how hot it is outside. Everyone from Alabama football coach Nick Saban to local school officials trying to keep their buildings cool during this record-breaking heat wave have expressed concern over the recent weather trend.
Tuesday was the hottest October day ever recorded in Alabama, and was the 103rd day this year that temperatures rose above 90 degrees. And we are already a week into autumn.
Birmingham meteorologist James Spann said the next few days will offer no relief. "Daily record highs are likely through Thursday as the strong upper high remains parked across the Deep South," Spann said. "Highs will hold in the mid to upper 90s as the 'endless summer' continues. Friday’s high will be in the low to mid 90s, just a degree or two lower. The chance of a cooling shower each day remains very small."

Spann did say that some long-awaited rain should come to the area this weekend, but not much. He said to expect no more than half an inch of rainfall late Sunday and into Monday. But temperatures are still expected to reach 90 degrees or above over the weekend.
Next week, Birmingham should get some refrain from the intense heat, but not a break from the drought conditions. "For now it looks dry with sunny, comfortable days and fair, cool nights Tuesday through Friday; highs will be mostly in the upper 70s with lows in the upper 50s."
