House Fire In Wylam: Mother And 4-Year-Old Child Dead
A 24-year-old woman and her 4-year-old child have been confirmed as fatalities in a house fire Thursday morning.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A house fire early Thursday morning in Birmingham claimed the lives of a 24-year-old woman and her 4-year-old child. Two children were injured as well.
The Birmingham Fire Department received the call regarding the fire at approximately 4:40 a.m. Thursday to a home in Birmingham's Wylam neighborhood, on 8th Avenue, according to a WBRC report. The fire reportedly started in the back of the home.
Firefighters pulled three victims from the fire, one of whom was 24-year-old Marqueshe Lajay Smith. Smith died Thursday night at UAB Hospital. The two other victims are at Children's of Alabama.

The deceased child has been identified as Vdarius Wade. Wade was found dead inside the house when firefighters arrived.
Officials have not determined the cause of the fire.
