More people are applying for passports than they were last fall. During the three-month period from October to December 2020, the Birmingham Public Library accepted 49 passport applications. From January to March 2021, the library accepted 178 passport applications. This climbing trend is expected to continue as more people get in the mood for traveling as COVID-19 vaccinations rise and more states lift COVID-related restrictions.

Before you arrive at the library to apply for your passport, there are several documents you will need to gather together to bring with you:

• Completed Form DS-11

• Evidence of U.S Citizenship, such as:
U.S. Birth Certificate (original or certified copies only)
Certificate of Naturalization
Certificate of Citizenship • Personal identification with a recent photo, such as:

Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
Government Employee ID
U.S. Military or U.S Military Dependent ID • Passport photograph (2x2 recent color photograph) – photos available for $15

• Payment
$110 application fee, payable to the U.S. Department of State (check or money order only)
$35 execution fee, payable to the Birmingham Public Library (cash, check, or credit/debit)
