Human Remains Found In Western Jefferson County Identified

Skeletal remains found in west Jefferson County have been identified as a missing Georgia man.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Human remains found last week in west Jefferson County have been identified. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man as Shawn David Jackson of Clay County, Georgia.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Jackson had been reported missing since July 7.

Deputies responded to Shady Grove Road near the Village Creek Bridge late in the afternoon of August 8, after some people walking in the area called to report finding the remains.

The sheriff's office responded to the area and found "what appeared to be human remains protruding from the ground," a statement said.

This case is being worked by Jefferson County investigators and investigators from Clay County Georgia.
