Harvey Could Have Significant Effects on Alabama Weather this Week

As residents along Texas' gulf coast deal with the destruction of Hurricane Harvey, weather in Alabama could be affected as well.

MOBILE, AL - The National Weather Service office in Mobile say residents along Alabama's coast can expect the effects of Hurricane Harvey this week. While most of Alabama should see some rain in the coming days, Alabama's coastal communities should expect some flood warnings and high winds.

The National Weather Service office issued a statement saying the waves stirred up by Harvey will raise the risk of rip currents at Alabama beaches over the weekend, and that here is also a potential for the entire state to get some heavy rain from Harvey if it tracks eastward. The gulf coast is nearing the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the last major hurricane to hit this specific area - although Hurricane Wilma also hit the Florida and some of the gulf coast in 2005.
