Hurricane Zeta: Area Schools Delay Start Thursday

Many area schools have opted to begin the school day late Thursday due to anticipated issues surrounding Hurricane Zeta.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Hurricane Zeta hit Louisiana Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane, and is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by the time it sweeps through Alabama late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.

Due to the expectation of road issues and possible power outages, many Birmingham-area schools have opted to start the day Thursday later than usual to give people and the schools time to assess any damage.

The following area schools will start on a delayed schedule Thursday:

Indian Springs School: opening at 10:10 a.m.

Jefferson County Schools: 2-hour delay

Jefferson Christian Academy: opening at 9 a.m.

Leeds City School System: 2-hour delay

Legacy Prep Charter School: 2-hour delay

Midfield City School s: 2-hour delay

Mountain Brook City Schools: 2-hour delay
