Jefferson County Jail Inmate Worker Dies: Sheriff

An inmate worker who was taken to the hospital last week has died.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An inmate who was found last week hanging in a work area at the Jefferson County Jail has died, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's office. The man was discovered at approximately 12:05 p.m. Nov. 29.

Deputy Chief David Agee said the inmate worker was found hanging by a bed sheet in a work area. Another inmate worker reportedly alerted the jail staff who performed CPR on the inmate until paramedics arrived.

Agee said the inmate had a faint pulse when he was transported to the hospital but died soon after arrival. The body was turned over to the Coroner’s Office for examination.
