Jay Roberson's Vacated City Council Seat Filled
The council voted 5 to 3 to appoint Wardine Alexander to the District 7 Birmingham City Council seat.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The District 7 seat on the Birmingham Cirty Council, vacated when Coincilman Jay Roberson resigned in September, has been filled by former Birmingham City Board of Education President Wardine Alexander. She was approved by a vote of 5-3.
Council President Valerie Abbott and Councilors William Parker, Hunter Williams, Darrell O’Quinn and Steven Hoyt voted for Alexander. Councilors Lashunda Scales, Shelia Tyson and John Hilliard voted for Lonnie Malone.
Scales and Tyson, who ran for Jefferson County Commission and won - just months after being re-elected to the city council - will leave their council seats November 14. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Patch morning newsletter.)

Council President Valerie Abbott said her office is accepting resumes and applications for District 1 and District 6 positions until Nov. 16. A special election has not yet been scheduled.
