Jefferson County Area Averaging 182 New Coronavirus Cases Per Day

Over the last week, Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, Blount, Cullman, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties have reported 1,276 COVID-19 cases.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Jefferson County, as Alabama's most populous, has reported more COVID-19 cases and deaths during the pandemic than any other county. Although numbers are down from a couple of months ago, Jefferson and its surrounding counties have combined for 1,276 new COVID-19 cases over the last week.

By comparison, the area exceeded that total in just three days July 16-18.

According to the Jefferson County Department of Health, Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, Blount, Cullman, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties are averaging 182 new COVID-19 cases per day during the last seven days.

The area posted 255 cases Tuesday, its highest daily total of the month. The area's highest daily total since March was reported July 9, with 538 new cases that day.
