Jefferson County Deputy Grazed By Bullet During Scuffle
A traffic stop in Mulga resulted in a suspect's gun discharging and grazing a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A traffic stop in Mulga Tuesday turned violent for Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies, as the driver of a moped started fighting with a deputy after the stop, resulting in the man's gun discharging and a bullet grazing the deputy.
The incident began just before 11:30 Tuesday night, when deputies pulled over 33-year-old Brandon Donte Fowler while Fowler was driving a moped near 1st Avenue and 2nd Street in the Mulga community.
Deputy Chief David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said Fowler refused to cooperate with the deputy and when the deputy attempted to pat him down the man began to fight the deputy.

During the fight a gun reportedly fell from Fowler’s waist band, hit the ground, discharged and grazed the deputy on the leg. A second deputy was on the scene and they were able to overpower Fowler and take him into custody.
Agee said it was later determined that Fowler had an outstanding warrant for theft of property, and was found to be in possession of marijuana, crystal meth and heroin. The deputy was checked on the scene by medical personnel and released.
