A 52-year-old inmate at the Jefferson County Jail was found dead in his cell.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A 52-year old male inmate at the Jefferson County jail was found dead in his cell Tuesday morning, and the Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the incident. During routine cell checks just after 3:30 this morning, deputies discovered inmate Timothy Bibb unresponsive. Jail medical staff and paramedics responded. Bibb was pronounced dead at 4:04 am. He had been alone in the cell and there were no signs of injury or trauma.
Bibb had been sentenced to prison Monday morning in Bessemer Circuit Court on a drug-related charge. Bibb had more than five prior felony convictions, so he had been sentenced as a habitual offender to five years in prison, with 18 months to serve followed by two years of supervised probation. He was booked into the Jefferson County jail at noon Monday. No foul play is suspected and cause of death is pending the medical examiner’s report.
