Jefferson County Passes 100 Coronavirus Deaths In November
More than 100 people have died from COVID-19 in Jefferson County in November, with 10 days left in the month.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — After confirming nine COVID-19 deaths Thursday, Jefferson County has now reported more than 100 deaths from the virus in November, with 106 reported fatalities as of Nov. 20.
By comparison, the county reported 29 deaths in the entire month of October. The exponentially larger number of new cases and fatalities comes just a few weeks after numbers were starting trend in a positive direction statewide in September and October, but health officials say sporting events, parties and school events have contributed to the rise in cases and the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in November.
Jefferson County reported 440 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, the third day in just the last week that the county has reported more than 400 new cases of the virus in a 24-hour span. As well, Friday's new case total was the second largest total of new cases in a day since the pandemic began.
