BIRMINGHAM, AL — An off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with DUI and reckless driving. Deputy Robert Wayne Latta, 58, was arrested just before noon Friday.
Deputy Chief David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said another deputy observed another Jefferson County patrol unit driving erratically on Highway 79. The deputy attempted to perform a stop on the unit to see if the driver of the other unit was in distress, Agee said.
Latta failed to stop intil he reached his residence, Agee said, and was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
