Man Dies After Being Struck By Train In East Birmingham
A 63-year-old man was killed Tuesday while walking on train tracks near Irondale.
BIRMINGHAM, AL - A man walking on train tracks in east Birmingham Tuesday morning was killed. The man, identified as 63-year-old Harold J. Higginbotham of Birmingham, was pronounced dead on the scene when authorities arrived just after 7:30 a.m.
An Alabama Media Group report said Higginbotham was sotted walking on the tracks at the 1900 block of Woodlands Industrial Drive. when the train was about half a mile from him. The engineer said he immediately began to sound his horn and tried to brake but Higginbotham showed no sign of responding.
As the train approached Higginbotham, who was walking in the same direction as the train was traveling, he appeared to turn to try to step off the tracks but was struck.

Authorities say they do not believe Higginbotham was trying to get hit.
