Man Dies After Falling from VA Hospital Parking Deck
A man died after he fell eight stories from the Veterans Affairs Hospital parking deck in Birmingham Sunday.
BIRMINGHAM, AL - A man who reportedly fell eight stories from the VA Hospital parking deck was found dead Sunday when paramedics arrived. The man was found by a shuttle driver who transports patients between the clinic and the hospital.
Birmingham police and firefighters responded about 1:39 p.m. Sunday to the VA Medical Clinic in the 2400 block of Seventh Avenue South, according to an Alabama Media Group report.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Evan Robert Underwood. He was 30 and a former history teacher and basketball coach at Cordova High School in Walker County.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the man’s injuries are consistent with a fall from a height of eight stories. There is nothing to suggest foul play.
The death is still under investigation.
