Suspect In Stolen Car Leads Police On Chase Through Birmingham

A 15-year-old led Birmingham police on a high-speed chase from Tarrant through Birmingham Tuesday before crashing.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A chase that began at Tarrant Elementary School between police and a suspect driving a stolen car ended near Green Springs Tuesday when the driver of the car crashed and was apprehended.

The pursuit traveled along Interstate 59/20 before continuing on side roads, according to an Alabama Media Group report. It ended when the suspect hit at least one motorist and then came to a halt. The motorist was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Reports of shots fired near the elementary school where the chase began have not been confirmed by police to be related to the chase.

The suspect, identified as a 15-year-old boy, was driving a car that had been reported stolen from Shelby County early Tuesday. Police say an AR-15 rifle and a handgun were found in the vehicle.
