Man Found Dead Outside Apartment Complex In East Birmingham
Police found a man dead with gunshot wounds outside an apartment complex in East Birmingham Wednesday.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A homicide investigation is underway after Birmingham police found a man dead outside an apartment complex in the 400 block of 36th Avenue North. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Evander Lewis Williams.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said Williams had gunshot wounds when he was found just after 10 a.m.
Although originally thought to be a suicide, Williams' death is now being investigated as a homicide, Mauldin said. He said the investigation indicates that Williams was assaulted and then fatally shot during the assault.
