Man Killed In Birmingham Drive-By Shooting Saturday Night

Carl Sanford Gardner was killed Saturday night in a drive-by shooting outside an Ensley motorcycle club.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man was killed Saturday night in a drive-by shooting outside an Ensley motorcycle club. The Jefferson County coroner’s office identified the victim as 47-year-old Carl Sanford Gardner.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. in the 1700 block of Avenue D. Birmingham police responded to the scene on a report of a person shot andfound Gardner unresponsive in the roadway, according to an Alabama Media Group report.

Gardner was taken to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:26 p.m.. Authorities said the suspect or suspects opened fire into a crowd standing outside the club.

Birmingham PD officer Rod Mauldin said the investigation shows shots were fired from a mid-size sedan that passed by the location. Police radios issued lookout bulletins for the vehicle shortly after the shooting. Police have not announced any arrests.
