Man Shot To Death In Ensley, Female Suspect In Custody

The Birmingham Police Department reports that a man was shot and killed on Court O in Ensley Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man was shot and killed Saturday in Ensley, according to the Birmingham Police Department. The Birmingham PD said they have a suspect in custody.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. Saturday, as officers from the West Precinct responded to 5720 Court O in Ensley to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers reportedly observed a male subject suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, identified as 41-year-old Hassan Mallette, was transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue for treatment. Upon arrival at the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Cheryl Watts, 39, has been charged with Mallette's murder. The incident has been classified as a domestic dispute between the husband and wife.
