Man Shot In East Lake Park, Girlfriend Injured
A man who was at East Lake Park to sell a cell phone was shot, and his girlfriend was injured by shattered glass.
BIRMINGHAM, AL - A transaction involving the sale of a cell phone turned violent Sunday night when a man was shot and his girlfriend injured at East Lake Park. The victims were meeting with unknown people to sell the phone when a conflict reportedly arose, resulting in shots fired.
The incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. in a field on 84th Street North next to the park. A report by Alabama Media Group said a man and his girlfriend met with unknown people in the dark area to sell the phone. Some kind of argument erupted and the suspect or suspects fired shots.
The male victim was shot in the chest, and reportedly fled on foot to the Shell service station one block away in the 8300 block First Avenue North. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported him to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. Police said he left a trail of blood.

The victim’s girlfriend fled in her car, stopping at the BP station in the 7700 block of First Avenue North. Police said she was also taken to UAB to be treated for her cuts.
The suspect or suspects were in a black Dodge, but not other description was immediately available.
