Man Shot And Killed At Birmingham Grocery Store

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Adding to the frighteningly high homicide total for Birmingham in 2018, a 37-year-old husband and father was shot to death Sunday morning outside M & N Groceries at the corner of 24th Street and Pearson Avenue.

A report by Alabama Media Group said the shooting happened at 9:20 a.m. and the victim - identified Sunday afternoon as Demetrius Davis - was pronounced dead on the scene after he collapsed just feet from the store.

More than 100 people gathered at the crime scene, including the victim's wife, son and brother. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots fired. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Patch morning newsletter.)

This is Birmingham's 88th homicide this year, and the 129th in all of Jefferson County.
