Man Shot While Walking His Dog On Beacon Parkway
A man died Monday morning after being shot while walking his dog on Beacon Parkway.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police say a man was shot and killed while walking his dog on Beacon Parkway early Monday morning. The incident occurred in the 900 block of Beacon Parkway East just after 1:30 a.m.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Jessie Merchant Birt.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was approached by the suspect and an exchange of words occurred prior to the suspect firing a single shot fatally wounding the victim.

No arrest has been made in this homicide — the 80th Birmingham homicide of the year — and detectives have not established a clear motive in this investigation.
