McCalla Burglary Suspect To Face Charges
A man who surrendered to the JCSO last week after a burglary in McCalla faces charges when he is released from the hospital.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man who surrendered to Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies last week in McCalla faces charges when he is released from a local hospital, where he is being evaluated.
The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. August 6, when the JCSO received a call for a burglary in progress at the 3500 block of Batton Road. When deputies arrived, they reported hearing some =one fleeing into some nearby woods.
As the deputies began to set up a perimeter to capture the man, the JCSO was notified by the Bessemer Police Department that they had taken a man into custody fitting the suspect description. The man was spotted in the middle of interstate 459 wearing only a red shirt and underwear. Passers-by alerted the officer that the man had a gun in his hand.

The Bessemer officer approached the man at gunpoint and he reportedly obeyed the officer's commands and surrendered.
