Medical Marijuana In Alabama: Senate Committee Approves Bill

The Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee has voted 8-1 to approve bill legalizing medical marijuana.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee has approved a bill legalizing medical marijuana in Alabama. The committee voted 8-1 in favor of the bill. A bill last year approving a study into the legalization of medical marijuana was passed by the legislature, creating the Alabama Medical Cannabis Study Commission.

The bill would allow patients to be prescribed medical marijuana for 15 medical conditions:

  1. autism spectrum disorder
  2. Anxiety
  3. epilepsy
  4. cancer
  5. Crohn's Disease
  6. degenerative or pervasive neurological disorders
  7. fibromyalgia
  8. glaucoma
  9. HIV/AIDS
  10. muscle disorders, including those associated with muscle spasms
  11. opioid addiction
  12. pain syndromes or pain associated with other medical conditions
  13. post traumatic stress disorder
  14. sleep disorders
  15. Tourette’s Syndrome

The bill now goes to the Senate for approval.
