More Than 200 New Coronavirus Cases In Jefferson, Mobile Counties
Jefferson and Mobile counties each added more than 200 new COVID-19 cases Friday, part of nearly 1,800 new cases statewide.
MONTGOMERY, AL — Alabama confirmed nearly 1,800 new COVID-19 cases Friday, with Jefferson and Mobile counties accounting for more than 400 of those. The state passed 85,000 total cases with Friday's total.
Of the 85,278 cases in Alabama since March, 21,772 of those cases have been reported in the last two weeks. Alabama began July with just under 38,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, meaning the state has added nearly 50,000 new cases of the virus in one month.
The state began July with 941 COVID-19 deaths, and reported Friday a total of 1,531 deaths from the virus.

Jefferson County added 255 cases to its total Friday, and Mobile County added another 205 cases. With Friday's additions, Jefferson County passed 11,000 total cases.

The counties reporting the most new cases Friday:
- Jefferson County: 255 new cases; 11,194 total
- Mobile County: 205 new cases; 8,084 total
- Calhoun County: 112 new cases; 1,409 total
- Montgomery County: 90 new cases; 6,047 total
- Shelby County: 75 new cases; 2,911 total
