More than 7,000 Fallen Vets From Alabama Since World War II

Since the start of World War II, more than 7,000 veterans from the state of Alabama have died in battle.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The state of Alabama has long been known for providing a high percentage of its population to the United States military. Currently, more than 27,000 Alabamians are either on active duty or serving in the reserves in some military branch in the country. And on Memorial Day, we honor those who died while serving the country, and many of the veterans who lost their lives are from Alabama.

A veterans group called Vet Friends listed nearly 2,000 veterans hailing from Alabama who have died in battle while serving in the U.S. military since Korea, and adding the more than 5,000 Alabama casualties in World War II brings Alabama's total above 7,000 since.

Of those Alabamians who have fallen in the line of duty - starting with World War II - the breakdown per specific conflict is as follows:
