Morning Shooting In Ensley: 1 Dead, 1 In Custody

A man is dead after a shooting early Saturday morning on Avenue W in Ensley.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man is dead and police have a person of interest in custody after a shooting early Saturday morning in Ensley. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue W and Dugan Avenue.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Carlos Mines of Birmingham.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department said police responded to a report of a car wreck, but found that the driver of the wrecked vehicle had suffered gunshot wounds.

Police have a person of interest in custody, but have not established a motive for the homicide. Anyone who has additional information pertaining to the case is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764.
