Mother Shot In Car With Teen Daughter Inside

The victim's 13-year-old daughter was asleep in the backseat at the time of the shooting, but she was not harmed.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A woman driving her teen daughter was shot Sunday night at a stoplight on First Avenue South and Oporto Madrid Boulevard. The victim's 13-year-old daughter was asleep in the backseat at the time of the shooting, but she was not harmed.

A report by Alabama Media Group said the mother was sitting in her silver Nissan at the stoplight when a black vehicle pulled up beside her and fired about six rounds into the passenger side of victim's vehicle with a large caliber rifle. Police believe the shooter was looking for someone and the victim was mistaken for someone else.

Birmingham police said the victim, possibly in her early-to-mid 30s, is in life-threatening condition. She was conscious when she was taken to the hospital. No arrests have been made.
