BIRMINGHAM, AL - Sunday, May 12, is Mother's Day, and the Birmingham metro is full of places people can take their mothers to celebrate the special day. From art shows to jazz brunches, there is no shortage of choices in the area to spend some quality time with mom.
Here are just a few of the options in and around Birmingham:
Mother's Day Brunch Tour (May 11); Grille 29, 780 Brookwood Village, Mountain Brook: Passengers will board a Party Bus and sample small plate bites from five restaurants in metro Birmingham during a four hour food tour (noon to 4 p.m.). Participants meet midway in the parking lot of Grille 29 near Macy's in Brookwood Mall. $90

Mother's Day Afternoon Tea; Clubhouse on Highland, 2908 Highland Avenue, Birmingham: Savor the flavor of royalty with a traditional English afternoon tea... Fine bone china tea cups, tiered trays, scones, savories, and sweets. Mother’s Day Afternoon begins at 12.01 p.m. with complimentary beverages to toast and celebrate her Majesty, dear mom. Take tea on the grand porch, or take tea in the grand parlor. $25
Mother's Day Brunch; Corbin Farms Winery, 800 County Road 87, Calera: Event includes live music, a fabulous prepared brunch menu and of course, wine from Corbin Farms. The event is both May 11 and May 12, beginning at 10 a.m. $24

2nd Annual Mother's Day Celebration; Canvas Event Center, 301 Green Springs Avenue, Homewood: Come celebrate your Mom, Wife, Sister or Daughter and enjoy an amazing dinner prepared by The Canvas' in-house executive chef and LIVE music by K.B.'s Technique. The event begins at 12 p.m. and lasts until 6 p.m. $30
Birmingham Rose Show; Botanical Gardens, 2612 Lane Park Road: The Birmingham Rose Society presents its annual rose show on Mother's Day weekend at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The judging is Saturday morning, but the festivities are all weekend. There are all sorts of categories ranging from "novice" to "experienced exhibitor" and also "artistic arrangements" and a photography division. The Gardens also hosts a number of educational seminars to help educate the public on the care of roses. Free
