FAIRFIELD, AL — A man was shot Saturday while driving through Fairfield. The motorist wrecked his vehicle after the shooting, but is expected to recover from his injuries.

Deputy Chief David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said deputies received a call regarding a traffic accident in Fairfield around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and discovered that the driver of the wrecked vehicle had been shot.

The driver told investigators that while he was driving on 56th Street he noticed headlights coming up from behind him and then he heard gunshots and realized that he had been hit. The victim wrecked nearby while trying to avoid further injury, Agee said.
