BIRMINGHAM, AL — Although not one of the most recognizable "national days," August 8 is officially National CBD Day. CBD - or cannabidiol - has made a splash in the health care market in the last year, and the Birmingham area has joined in the trend, with multiple CBD stores opening in the metro this year.

CBD-MD founded National CBD Day to bring awareness to what CBD brings to the health care world annually. Since 2018, the federal government has defined hemp, which has little or no THC in it, as a legal plant that is distinct from marijuana. Therefore, hemp-based products like CBD oil don’t fall under national anti-drug laws.

The benefits of CBD have been touted by its advocates for years: helping with pain relief, inflammation, anxiety and depression, acne, heart health and diabetes prevention, among others.
