Officer Shoots Robbery Suspect At Ensley KFC: Police
A shooting In Ensley involving a Birmingham police officer and a robbery suspect is under investigation.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — An investigation is underway after a shooting involving a Birmingham police officer and a robbery suspect at the KFC in Ensley Wednesday. The incident occurred just after 5:30 p.m.
Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Department said an off-duty uniformed officer was working an extra security detail at the restaurant located at 1800 Ensley Avenue and saw a suspect with a handgun attempt to rob the business as he entered the location.
Williams said when the officer confronted the suspect, the officer shot at the suspect. The suspect managed to escape the location by exiting through the drive-through window. Additional officers were called to the area to search for the suspect, but he remains at large.

Williams said the suspect was believed to be injured during the robbery. There were no injuries to the officer or employees.
The shooting investigation will be conducted by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
