Parker Coach Tests Positive For Coronavirus, 2 Games Cancelled

A Parker High School football coach has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the team to quarantine and cancel its next two games.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Parker High School will not play its football game Friday night against Ramsay, and will not play its game next Friday against Wenonah either. A member of the Parker football team's coaching staff has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing a 14-day quarantine of the entire team and staff.

Birmingham City Schools superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan made the announcement Friday and said the schools will try to reschedule the games if possible. The coach who tested positive eas not identified in Sullivan's statement.

Parker is not the first team in the Birmingham metro to have to quarantine. Vestavia Hills High School had to cancel its first two games of the season after a member of its coaching staff tested positive for the virus, and Hueytown High School cancelled a game based on some members of the team and staff showing symptoms of COVID-19.
