Police Standoff Ends With Arrest Of Homicide Suspect
A suspect in a December homicide was arrested after a standoff with police in Wenonah.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A suspect in the December 27 murder of 32-year-old Fredrick Adams was arrested Thursday after a standoff with police outside an apartment complex in Wenonah. Dewayne Rodrigues Johnson has been charged with capital murder.
Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Department said West Precinct officers received a Crime Stoppers tip that Johnson was at the apartments at 2808 Wallace Covington Circle. Officers arrived and confirmed that the suspect was inside an apartment, but he refused to comply and surrender to officers.
Williams said SWAT personnel responded to the location and negotiators attempted to encourage the suspect to surrender for more than an hour. After Johnson refused, Williams said a gas agent was deployed into the residence which forced Johnson to surrender without further incident.
