The BJCC said an additional 1,200 seats will be added into the new downtown stadium.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham's new downtown stadium, currently under construction, will seat a few more people than originally planned. A report by the Birmingham Business Journal said Protective Stadium increased its seating capacity by 1,200 seats.
The new plan announced by the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex shows a seating capacity of 47,100, according to the BBJ report.
The $180 million project is expected to be completed by 2021. The University of Alabama at Birmingham football team will be the multi-purpose stadium's primary tenant.
