Publix, Walmart, Others Closed In Birmingham Christmas Day

Most grocery stores will be closed for Christmas, but some convenience stores may be open in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The holidays are tricky when it comes to shopping - even for basic items such as food, gas and toiletries. Most people likely know that finding a place to buy anything on Christmas day is a task, and hopefully everyone has already stocked up on batteries for the Christmas toys, food for dinner and alcohol - in case that is part of your Christmas ritual.

While the big grocery stores are mostly closed on December 25, there are some businesses that will operate on Christmas day, but the list in Birmingham is short.

  • CVS: most locations open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Rite-Aid: most locations open with varying hours
  • Safeway: most locations open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Speedway: most locations open 24 hours
  • Walgreens: Most locations open
