BIRMINGHAM, AL — The long-awaited construction of Birmingham's real-time crime center took a step forward Tuesday when the Birmingham City council approved a construction bid for the project. A WBHM report said the vendor of $940,030 bid was not revealed.
The crime center, which will employ policing technology such as ShotSpotter and PredPol, as well as recently approved Motorola surveillance software, will be built in former storage space on the fourth floor of the Birmingham Police Department’s headquarters, according to the WBHM report.
Mayor Randall Woodfin said the target date of the project is May 2021.
