Remains Found In Birmingham Building Identified

Human remains found in a building at 1918 25th Court North over the summer have been identified as a missing 31-year-old man.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Human remains found over the summer in an abandoned Birmingham building have been identified. Authorities say the body is that of Jerry Michael Ray, 31.

Ray was a was a transient living in Birmingham but had family in St. Clair County, according to an Alabama Media Group report. His remains were discovered Aug. 2 by two teenagers who were exploring the empty building at 1918 25th Court North.

Ray was not reported missing until Oct. 23, when St. Clair County detectives reached out to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office and they determined the remains found in August were Ray. He was positively identified through medical records and comparisons of tattoos on his left lower leg, upper right arm and upper left arm.

He was last known to be alive July 22 in the north Birmingham area near Finley Boulevard.
