Remains Found Of Missing Birmingham Teen

Birmingham police Friday found the remains of Birmingham teenager Daniel Rickett, who has been missing since February of 2018.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Human remains found by Birmingham police July 24 have been identified as Birmingham teenager Daniel Rickett who has been missing since February of 2018. Police discovered his body near 501 2nd Place SW Friday morning.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the person who reported finding the remains was surveying a wooded area when they located a burned vehicle that appeared to contain human remains.

Mauldin said the Jefferson County Coroner's Office determined that Rickets died from a gunshot wound, and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Rickett was 17 years old at the time of his disappearance, and was a student at Carver High School. He was reportedly last seen by his sister in the Evergreen Bottom Community February 7.
