One of the women who accused Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore of pursuing her romantically as a teenager wants to run for a seat in the Florida Legislature.
Debbie Wesson Gibson has posted her intentions on the fundraising site Crowdpac to run as a Democrat for the 89th District seat in the Florida Legislature. The seat is currently held by Republican Bill Hager.
"There is a Chinese proverb that says 'Women hold up half the sky.' Yet women do not hold 50 percent of the positions in our government. Coming off the sidelines for the first time politically seems a natural response to realizing that too many of us, particularly women, have felt that some special mysterious qualification was needed to participate in our democratic process as a candidate," Gibson said in a statement on Crowdpac.

"The past 5 months have crystallized what's been coming to me for a decade more gradually-- the Republican Party is no longer the right fit for me; I am proudly running as a Democrat."
Gibson says she is a graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and has lived in Palm Beach County for 32 years.

Gibson said her relationship with Moore began when she was 17 and in high school; Moore was in his 30s and working at Etowah County District Attorney's Office. She never accused Moore of molesting her. Gibson said she openly dated Moore when she was in high school and later joined him in passing out fliers during his campaign for circuit court judge in 1982.
Gibson said that she and Moore dated for a couple of months and he kissed her by the swimming pool concession stand at a local country club. Their relationship ended when she left for college, the Washington Post reported.
Moore, who denied dating Gibson and the sexual abuse allegations from other women, lost to Democrat Doug Jones in December's Senate election.
