School Closings and Delays In Birmingham Area

Snow in Birmingham Friday causes most metro systems to close or delay opening.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Snowfall across central Alabama Friday morning has prompted area school systems - most of which had already delayed opening for two hours - to close. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, and accumulating snow is expected for most of the day. The NWS statement says cold air moving in from the west and northwest will cause rain to continue to mix with and change to snow this morning. "Temperatures are expected to remain at or just above freezing while the snow falls, but accumulations are expected with the highest amounts on grassy and elevated surfaces. Forecast accumulations have been raised in a swath across Central Alabama, where a winter storm warning has been issued."
